District Inspector Cornes has been in his new role, which covers the Leeton and Narrandera areas, for just over a week.
In 2001, District Inspector Cornes was posted to a role in Sydney, moving from the North Coast where he was brought up to take up the job.
From there, he worked on the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie. He joined NSW Highway Patrol in 2006 and moved around between various highway sections and also general duties.
In 2010, he became a Sergeant in Newcastle and in 2011 he was promoted to Senior Sergeant for the Northern Region.
With his wealth of experience, he was looking forward to bring his skills to the Leeton and Narrandera areas.
District Inspector Cornes will live and work in Leeton and he said getting to know the community was his number one priority.
He has moved his family to Leeton, with his children starting school in town.
"I've always relieved at various commands throughout the Newcastle area, so I'd like to think I'm pretty well prepared for the job here," District Inspector Cornes said.
"Coming from a cluster where I managed 69 people, to the Leeton and Narrandera area, is a bit of a change, but it allows me the opportunity to really get out there and get to know the community.

"I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into the issues that are out there. My philosophy is when you make a tree change such as this you have to go for good.
"I definitely want to be part of the community and I want people to know they can come in here and have a chat with me."
For now, District Inspector Cornes is getting to know the area and what needs addressing.
"Over time I will get to understand what the bigger issues are and how we can help," he said.
"I do know we have a great team here at Leeton.
"Coming from a bigger area into a regional town, I just want to appreciate what the community looks for and needs and how I can help achieve that."
