The Tasmanian crossbencher, who holds a crucial swing vote, has promised to support the coalition's "ensuring integrity" laws unless the construction union boss resigns.

"Has John Setka resigned this morning? Then absolutely not," Senator Lambie told Sky News on Tuesday, when asked whether she had changed her mind.

"John Setka needs to go."

Senator Lambie also sounded a clarion call to women in the union movement.

"I would like to see the sisterhood out there of the unions ... all the women out there that complain about domestic violence issues, bullies and all that sort of stuff, they've all gone quiet, they've all gone amiss," she said.

"Why aren't they standing outside the CFMEU House down there in Melbourne and saying, 'Remove yourself, we want you gone, mate'?

"You know, 'You are a meathead, see you later, this is what you have done to our union, we know what you are like, how you have treated your wife in the past' and all the rest."

The Morrison government wants to make it easier to deregister unions and ban rogue officials, while also making it harder for unions to merge.

"John Setka needs to go. And the only person who doesn't realise that is John Setka himself," Senator Lambie said.

Earlier this year, Mr Setka pleaded guilty to harassing his wife by text messages.

He was also suspended from the Labor Party after being accused of making disparaging remarks about anti-domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty.

Last month, Mr Setka was referred to parliament's powerful privileges committee over alleged threats to senators.

Mr Setka is fighting his expulsion from Labor through the courts and is refusing to stand down from the union, with many CFMEU members backing him to stay.
