The fifth and latest installment of the Daniher Drive finished up on the weekend with a record $3.1 million raised for the Neale Daniher-led Fight MND campaign.
About $60,000 of that came from the Riverina through the Sock It To MND initiative that was conducted across AFL Riverina, Hume League and Group Nine.
"We want to thank the Riverina and let them realise how much they contribute to the cause," Sock It To MND organiser Dorothy Vearing said.
"Every cent makes such a big difference.
"What they have given us is making a huge difference to people. We started with nothing and at least now we've got a lot of hope."
With the Riverina's support, Fight MND has been also to commit almost $40 million to world-leading MND medical research initiatives, including 10 clinical trials, 10 drug development projects and a world-first drug screening platform.
One Queensland researcher said they are now 20 years ahead in clinical trials due to the money that has been raised.
Chris Daniher said it is amazing the difference that has been made in a short amount of time.
"It puts it in perspective, what we're doing, we're making a hell of a difference," Daniher said.
"Through the generosity of every day people we can make such a big difference.
"We just want to keep it going, we're not there yet, we're making inroads and the trials are keeping people alive longer but it just takes money and it takes people."
The Danihers are proud that 90 cents out of every dollar raised in the Fight MND campaign goes directly towards research.
They thanked Intersport and AFL Riverina for their support with the Sock It To MND campaign and are keen to grow it across other sports in future years.
"We'd love to hear from anyone that knows of, or is affected by, MND so we can use them going forward and the associations they've got," Daniher said.
