Already the region is under a total fire ban, with farmers also urged to be on alert while harvesting today.
MLHD director public health unit Tracey Oakman said residents with asthma should express caution today when outdoors.
"Current high pollen counts and the predicted thunderstorms can increase the risk of asthma," she said.
"People who are known to suffer from asthma should carry their asthma puffer with them at all times and try to stay indoors with the windows and doors closed during the storm period.
"If you have breathing difficulties call Triple Zero or go to your nearest hospital emergency department."
MIA residents are also today noticing strong winds are bringing dust and smoke into the area.
According to the Rural Fire Service - Riverina, this smoke is being blown in from large bushfires on the north coast and Hawkesbury areas.
This smoke may continue for several days.
Residents should not call Triple Zero to report this smoke, rather save it for emergencies.
