The Total Fire Ban was issued for all of NSW late last week. During a Total Fire Ban, no fires are allowed out in the open.
Police were called to the Gossamer Street home on Sunday, January 6 around 12.30pm after reports of a fire having been lit in the backyard of a home during the ban.

Once on scene, officers knocked on the door of the property and spoke to a 40-year-old woman, who will now be issued with a fail to comply notice for breaking a Total Fire Ban order.
This type of offence can attract a hefty fine and even jail time in some circumstances.
Police have reminded residents they are not allowed to light fires of any type during a Total Fire Ban period.
Total Fire Ban rules
- A total fire ban means no fires out in the open. A total fire ban helps limit the potential of fires developing.
- During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.
- General purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.
- The NSW RFS strongly recommends you reconsider activities such as such using a tractor or slashing, to help reduce the chance of a fire starting on your property. Under certain conditions, the NSW RFS may issue a Harvest Safety Alert.
Break and enter a concern for Leeton Pony Club
A LAWN mower and two whipper snippers have been stolen from the Leeton Pony Club.
The items are believed to have been taken sometime between Christmas Eve and January 5 from the club property at Merungle Hill.
The offenders were able to gain access to the items after breaking two padlocks and forcing their way into the building where they were being housed.
Anyone with information should contact Leeton police or Crime Stoppers.
