SOME would say having a voice when it comes to the shire's health services has never been crucial.
Now is the chance to do just that by putting up your hand to be part of Leeton's Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC), which is on the hunt for new community members.
As advocates for the community, LHAC members are chosen for their passion and ability to represent their town's health interests, needs and concerns.
These committees were formed in 2012 to provide an avenue for "consumer feedback" and advocacy for the public health service.
Today, the role of LHACs has evolved to incorporate primary health care as well as involvement in health service planning and development.
Wendell Peacock is a member of Leeton's LHAC through her role at Leeton Shire Council, saying it was important the group included a broad cross-section of residents.
"Committee members take part in planning and development of health services by being involved in consultations and providing feedback during service planning," she said.
"They play an important role in informing the decision makers in the health services of issues and concerns in communities.
"We are looking for people who are passionate about health in the community and who have connections with a variety of other community members to be able to share information and feedback."
The Leeton hospital facility manager, or their representative, attends every LHAC meeting and minutes are distributed to representatives of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District and the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network.
Any matters that need to be brought to the attention of the executives of both bodies are highlighted in the minutes.
Members can also attend the two LHAC forums which are organised every year.
To become a member residents need to complete an application form and have the required screening take place.
Forms can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JOIN_LHAC.
