In a father and son battle, Declan Ryan won a very close contest against his father Sean by one point 32-31.
Bryan Shepley defeated Emily Lyons which sealed victory for the Declan Ryan/Shepley combination.
In the doubles, Lyons and Sean Ryan scored a golden point win 27-26. Leah Smith outplayed Sarah McAliece but John Gown evened the score when he defeated newly crowned Citizen of the Year Ruth Tait. However, Tait and Smith claimed a team win when they took out the doubles 32-25.
Fresh from his overseas holiday, Anthony Iannelli was too good for Brianna Gray-Mills, however, the contest was even at 1 all when Blayne Thompson was too quick around the court for Jackson Goman.
The deciding doubles match was won by Thompson and Gray-Mills by the barest margin, 31-30. Marnah Cunningham was too strong for Adele Thompson but Narelle Ryan got her team back in it with a good win against Naomi Rawle.
In the deciding doubles match, Cunningham and Rawle beat Thompson and Ryan 30-22. Garry Thompson got his team away to a good start by winning a close match over Callum Ryan 34-30.
However, that was the only match they won as Dion DeMamiel showed amazing speed and recovery shots to down Brian O'Leary and the DeMamiel/Ryan team then took out the doubles 40-29. Zac Fairweather was too good for Miranda Tait, however, his teammate Kira Brettschneider lost to Siarne Deeves.
The doubles match was won by Fairweather and Brettschneider 36-27. In a very entertaining match in which both players chased the ball all around the court, Michael McColl just outlasted Andre Holtzhausen winning 41-39. Ian Hookway outplayed Katie McAliece and the deciding doubles went to Holtzhausen and Hookway 39-26.
Sixty-eight players have entered the new squash competition which started yesterday. Competition will be played on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
