Riverina League have managed to buck the trend of surrounding leagues and regions by keeping representative football alive for another year.
Hume League pulled the pin on representative football after the Victorian Community Championships were canned, while Farrer followed suit when they were unable to find a suitable opponent.
Riverina League will play AFL Canberra at Robertson Oval on Saturday, May 16, where they will look to overturn last year's 21-point loss.
Riverina League president Chris Flanigan is pleased to keep representative football alive for another year.
"It is good, it buys us another year," Flanigan said.
"I'm not sure how long term it's going to be, it's getting harder and harder obviously but we're still keen to put the league out there.
"It's good to also reward the players who want to represent the league."
Riverina League clubs discussed the future of representative football back in November and clubs were happy to continue.
"We spoke about it at the meeting and there wasn't any opposition to rep footy," he said.
"The opportunity came up to have Canberra come over here and play us so it should be good."
Leeton-Whitton premiership coach Jade Hodge has been reappointed to lead the Riverina League representative team.
"Himself and Nath (Jones) did a great job last year and re-committed straight after the game last year," Flanigan said.
"It was just a matter of making a quick call to double check."
There will no open representative netball after a suitable opponent was unable to be found.
Flanigan remains hopeful that netball will feature on the day with potential for under age representative games to be played.
The plan is also to stage at least one curtain raiser in the football.
