The Alaska String Band brought some new and different entertainment to Whitton, performing at The Bowling Club on Saturday night. This family band has plenty of awards to their name, and entertained with American roots favourites, as well as a mix of swing, jazz, rock, original, pop, folk and bluegrass. The family members all played various instruments and sang polished and riveting harmonies. The next day saw the club hosting the Number 7 Pennants Bowls, with Whitton defeating Darlington Point 9-1. The community hall has also been busy this week, with Leeton Shire Council hosting a seniors expo as part of the NSW Seniors Festival celebrations in the shire. Held on Tuesday morning, there were information stalls, activities, and a cooking/nutrition demonstration, all showcasing the local services that support seniors. That evening the Whitton Town Improvement Committee held its meeting. Among items discussed, we were given updates from LSC on the Waste Transfer Station works, the upcoming bridge works on the Darlington Point road, information on the Draft Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement, and the Council's Grants Program. Then on Thursday, playgroup held its weekly session. Whitton Murrami Public School has kept the pool busy, hosting the Small Schools Swimming Carnival on Friday, February 7. Several students have progressed through to the LNPSSA Swimming Carnival. The students also participated in Intensive Water Familiarisation and Safety sessions daily during weeks two and three of this term. In other school news, a meet and greet BBQ- dinner out at the school, was held last Tuesday evening.
