There were several Australia's Biggest Morning Tea events being held, a well-known umpire reached a milestone on the field, children were learning how to walk safely to school and students were again tearing up the sporting arena with many achievements.
The football season was also just getting underway.
It is hard to fathom 2008 was also 12 years ago - surely it was just yesterday!

- May 1: Five people are killed when a runabout collides with a fishing boat on Sydney Harbour.
- May 17: Fugitive gangster Tony Mokbel arrives in Australia following his extradition from Greece.
- May 22: Revolutionary Australian forum television program Q&A broadcasts its first episode. Colin Campbell Ross, hanged in 1922 for the Gun Alley Murder, is granted an official pardon.
- May 26: Paul Lennon announces his resignation as Premier of Tasmania. His deputy, David Bartlett, is sworn in as the new Premier later in the day. Camden Council in Sydney votes unanimously to reject a proposal to build a 1200 student Islamic school in the area.
