Parents, teachers, community members or anyone who works with children through to teenagers are being encouraged to attend a youth mental health first aid course on March 18 and 25 in Leeton.
Participants will become an accredited mental health first aider where they will learn how to assist adolescents who are developing mental illness, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
The idea is a "mental health first aider" will be able to provide assistance until appropriate professional help is received.
The sessions are being organised by Amy Salmon, who is the owner of Rebalance Training.
MORE NEWS
Ms Salmon has more than 13 years experience working as a social worker across many different areas and facets.
It this experience she will bring to the table, with the end goal of helping people to help each other in the long run.
"It's specifically targeted at people working with or supporting young people up to the age of about 18," Ms Salmon said.
"People want to support young people. We recognise mental health is a significant issue for young people, but often we don't know how to have those conversations with them.
"With this training, it allows people to have the skills to recognise something might be happening, how do we approach that conversation and support that person? That's what we focus on."
Knowing how to help and what to do in these situations is critical, especially when it comes to young people and helping them through a difficult time.
"It's so hard being a young person today ... it's hard for them to switch off," Ms Salmon said.
"There's certainly great conversations around mental health, but we need to be able to reach them in a way that works as well."
The sessions cost $250, which includes all resources, a manual to keep, and morning and afternoon tea.
