That is exactly what will be happening on Sunday in Leeton when a barbecue is held to thank all of the volunteers, firefighters, helpers and linesmen and women who put in more than just the hard yards during Australia's horror bushfire season.
Leeton shire was not immune from the crisis, with Rural Fire Service crews working in rotation to help fight blazes throughout the state, NSW Fire and Rescue Leeton was also sent to various locations, as well as other essential workers from the shire.
Many residents also donated supplies and money to the cause and this will also be an event to thank them for their generosity.

The barbecue has been organised by Sandra Nardi, who initiated the collection centre in Leeton right in the midst of the disaster.
"We just wanted to do something to say thank you to everyone no matter what role they played," she said.
"I think it's important we have that opportunity to just let everyone know their work was really appreciated by everyone."
The barbecue will be held on Sunday in Mountford Park from 11am at no charge.
