Organisers of the Australian Art Deco Festival Leeton have been forced to postpone this year's event, but have assured residents and visitors they are already working on the 2021 event.

The festival's second running had been due to be held from July 10 to 12 in Leeton, but due to the ongoing pandemic and its associated restrictions on day-to-day living and large gatherings, organisers have said the decision not to hold the event in 2020 was in line with advice being released by all levels of government.

Leeton Shire Council marketing and cultural services co-ordinator Suesann Vos said it had been a hard decision to make.

"We have had to postpone the event this year, but we are actively working on the July 2021 planning for the festival," she said.

Last year was the first time the festival was held in its revamped format.

While the weather was a bit chilly, all of the associated events were well received by both visitors and local residents.

This included a Flappers and Felons ball at he Roxy Theatre, a festival in Chelmsford Place, a Hundred at the Hydro evening, a breakfast, high tea, exhibitions and much more.

While this year's event can't go ahead, resident have still been urged to take in the shire's art deco heritage while they are perhaps out on their daily walk.

The main street area in particular is home to many art deco buildings, with plaques outside many of these now giving a look into their history.

"We're already so excited about what 2021 will look like for this event," Mrs Vos said.
