The two-year-old filly utilised a good draw and the sprint lane to get her racing career off to a winning start at Riverina Paceway on Friday.

With some pleasing trial performances, trainer-driver Todd Prest was hopeful of a strong performance and the daughter of Sportswriter delivered.

"She had been trialling good and has been doing everything right and I hope she had a hope," Prest said.

"I didn't know if they would cross her, and I just got crossed, but she went really good."

Prest was far from thrilled that the pair landed three back on the pegs from the one alley.

However he quickly got off the pegs, found cover, before electing to head back down to the marker line as some of his rivals started to tire.

It proved to be a masterstroke as Sporty Dancer ran down leader Eippermill to take out the Albury Wodonga Kitchens 2YO Pace (1740m) by 1.6 metres.

"Once I was three back the pegs I didn't really want to be there but saw Blake (Jones) coming around three wide and thought I would pop off to get the one-one," Prest said.

"It all opened up in the end so it was good."

Sporty Dancer is the only horse the Leeton trainer has in work.

He leased the filly with partner Corina Hosie about three months ago.

She is one who has also shown plenty of natural ability.

"She is a well mannered filly and takes everything in her stride," Prest said.

"It helps with the two-year-olds."

Meanwhile Alannah Pitt continued her strong form since moving back to the Riverina after combining with Walter Kefford.

Im Not Crazy was posted wide early in the Blacklocks Albury Pace (1740m) before Pitt eventually found the front.

She then elected to take cover, saving Im Not Crazy for one final charge at them.

It was a plan that worked as the Leeton pacer utilised the sprint lane to score a 2.4-metre win from the fast-finishing Our Sams Home.

Riverina clubs have combined to allow participants more opportunities to race at Wagga after a massive number of horses balloted from Friday's meeting.

A new meeting has been created for Monday, May 4.
