There was plenty going on around the world during this time, here's some of what was happening across the globe:
- In central Russia, shock waves from a meteor-the largest recorded object encountered by Earth since 1908.
- Super Bowl XLVII had a record 164.1 million viewers in the United States alone despite unprecedented 34 minute power outage due to equipment failure at stadium.
- A bus catches fire after falling into a ravine in Gansu province, China, killing 18 people and injuring 34 others on February 2.
- Former United States Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and another man are killed at a shooting range near Glen Rose, Somervell County, Texas.
- In tennis, the Czech Republic's Tom Berdych and Luk Rosol defeat Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka and Marco Chiudinelli in the longest match in Davis Cup history, with a time of seven hours and two minutes.
- At least 33 people are killed in Kirkuk, Iraq, when a suicide bomber detonates a truck packed with explosives outside a police headquarters and gunmen disguised as officers tried to storm the compound on February 3.
