With the help of Rotary clubs in Wagga and down the South Coast, the community managed to raise $30,000 to help repair the Zaric family's house that was destroyed in a storm.
On top of that plumbers, bricklayers and tradies have also leapt to the aid of Rick Zaric, a builder who has worked alongside them on projects all throughout Wagga.
"It's overwhelmed us a lot. It's left us speechless sometimes, because we didn't ask for any of this," Mr Zaric said.
"The kids can't wait to get their own bedroom. They're always going on about it."
In other news:
Mr Zaric's son Cody suffers from Dent Disease, a rare and debilitating illness that has put emotional and financial strain on the family.
The family of four are currently living in caravan cabins in Nangus, but once the repairs are finished they will have a family home to call their own.
When the bricking is done and the windows are put in, volunteers from Wagga will go to Nangus for a working bee to finish off the final touches on the interior.
Spearheading the Wagga fundraising effort is Wollundry Rotary member John Egan, who said the community had really rallied behind the cause.
"When you see Rotarians standing out in the freezing cold at markets doing barbecues or book fares, this is the kind of place the money goes to," Mr Egan said.
"When we get up at 4am in the morning it's because we want to."
