WR Connect is the freight terminal at between Leeton and Griffith at Wumbulgal.

A master plan for the project was launched last year, with councils across the region, including Leeton shire and Griffith City, working together to further establish the facility and lobby for funding.

The freight terminal is located in Leeton shire, with council here taking the lead point on the collaboration.

While the site has been established for some time, the idea is to gain funding to further progress it as a hub that hub that offers easy access for domestic and global markets looking to export more efficiently.

As an example this would be done through connectivity with the inland rail network and local airports.

Ms Cooke, who is also the Member for Cootamundra, said the councils involved had been in discussion with the Department of Regional NSW about securing the WR Connect site as an Special Aviation Precinct or Local Activation Precinct.

"I have been a participant in those deliberations with council," she said.

"I will continue to advocate the merits of this project with both the NSW and federal governments."

The Wumbulgal Rail Siding is also a project that had a business case completed recently to determine the economic viability of removing main line loading of the line and onto a siding at this location, and to determine a design and structure for the siding."

Ms Cooke was in Leeton this week to present funding to the shire for several community projects.

At a state level, Leeton is part of the Murray electorate, with Helen Dalton the current MP for the area.

Mrs Dalton's Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party last week issued the NSW government with a list of priorities they would like addressed before offering any sort of conditional support to the state Coalition.

The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party Compact with NSW would like to see several issues addressed in the Murray, particularly when it comes to water and health.

Ms Cooke commented on the compact and was hopeful all sides of politics could come together to help NSW through the COVID-19 pandemic now and into the future.

"Regional communities have been devastated by drought, bushfires and COVID-19 and the last thing they need is people playing politics with their futures," she said.

"The prosperity and wellbeing of communities in regional NSW continues to be the number one priority of the NSW Nationals."

The compact has been presented to NSW Premier Gladys Gladys Berejiklian and other government leaders.

The Shooters, Fishers and Farmers currently hold key votes in the state's Upper House, so the government is attempting to address their priorities to allow for more matters to be passed in the Parliament.
