The score was level at the first break before the Crows were able to build a five-point advantage at the main break.
The visitors extended that lead to eight points before holding the Goannas goalless in the final term to come away with an 8.11 (59) to 6.8 (44) victory.
Cooper Sharman, Nathan Ryan and coach Daniel Muir booted two goals for the victors, while George Kendall bagged three for the Goannas.
Muir was pleased his side were able to pick up the four points.
"We were happy enough to just playing footy but to play the way we did and stick to our structures and back ourselves in was really pleasing," he said.
"It was good to come away with the four points.
With a number of new and returning players in the side, Muir was happy with the way the side came together.
"It was like they have been playing here for years," he said.
"They have been training with us for a while now to try and get a bit of gelling before round one.
"The more games we play together, the better performances we will put on the park.
"Just the fact that there were a few fresh faces there and the fact that we were able to play so well together and stick to our gameplan was pleasing.

"We are trying to play a bit of a high-risk, high reward sort of game style and to be able to stick to it and keep backing ourselves in was pleasing."
It was also the first time in around 16 months that the Crows coach was able to take to the field after he picked up a shoulder injury in 2019 and was pleased to get through the clash without any serious injuries as a team.
"I was a bit rusty, probably would have dropped half a dozen marks inside the forward 50," he said.
"A couple of games to get that match fitness back and get that touch back and I will be right.
"I got a bit of a corky, but that should be alright come next weekend. There were a few boys that were a bit battered and sore, but I don't think it will keep them out of next weekend's game."
The Crows will return home this weekend where they will take on Turvey Park, and Muir knows it will be essential to keep the momentum moving forward.
"It a six-game season it's going to be crucial to get wins on the board early, and we have ticked one off, and we will head into next week confident," he said.
"We know Turvey will be a tough match as well."
