Coach Stuart Stout felt his side were lacking a bit of cohesion between the forwards and the backs.
"We knew we could have played better than that. The girls all tried really hard, but they were able to get the result we were after," he said.
"Whenever the backs got the ball, it was always in traffic, or it wasn't clear one-on-ones with the backline.
"We just got a bit congested with the use of the ball. When the forwards get in driving forward, and that is what we want them to do, they just have to realise when it's time for the backs to take the ball."
In promising signs for the side, not only this season but also into the future has been the new players turning up at training.
Stout is hopeful that once they get a taste, they will stick around.
"There has been a bit of interest with people who haven't played Union before so we will probably have three or four that haven't played before," he said.
"With it being a shortened season if we can get new players coming in that will hold us in good stead for next year.
"It's not only about the game by game injury thing it is also about trying to encourage people to get involved in girl's rugby union."
I'm pretty sure we will be able to get away with a win if we can stick to what we do best

This weekend will be a new challenge for the Phantoms as they prepare to head to Hay to take on the Cutters in their first season in the competition.
"We aren't too sure what their style of play is, but we will just stick to ours, and I'm pretty sure we will be able to get away with a win if we can stick to what we do best," he said.
"They played a bit of football last year, but they weren't actually in the competition, and they have some new players."
