Leeton Shire Council has been working to upgrade Wade Avenue as part of its CBD enhancement plan, with the road being closed for an extended period to traffic.

However, traffic can now travel in both directions on the road, which certainly looks much different than it once did.

There's 45 degree-angle parking, new nature strips, safety precautions and the work is still not finished.

The idea is to not only make the area more accessible to traffic and pedestrians, but to also make it safer, modern and much nicer on the eye.

Council director of operations Peter Keane said while work continued, residents and motorists needed to be mindful when in the area.

"The project team is delivering the western pedestrian pavement in Wade Avenue over the next two weeks, with landscaping throughout the avenue due to take place towards the end of August and into September," he said.

"Street furniture (such as) tree grates, seats and bollards will also be installed next month with the street to be resurfaced with a compacted asphalt rolled finish at the end of September."

The enhancement work has been in the pipeline for some time and is being funded by several levels of government.

While there were some concerns from shop owners about the work limiting the number of patrons accessing their businesses, most now say they are pleased with the outcome as they start to see the project really take shape.

Council said the project also continued to be on budget heading into completion.

"We are receiving really positive feedback from the community," Mr Keane said.

"We have gained tremendous support from businesses, bus companies and the general public with both the works being carried and during the closure.

"The clientele of the medical, pathology and optical centres have had the support of a wheelchair for those with mobility issues.

"I am also aware of several instances where our contractor provided door-to-door service from one appointment to the next."
