LEETON Shire Council, Jackie Kruger and councillors had a private meeting to discuss our Chelmsford Place precinct.
They decided the Rotary Club of Leeton, who erected the rotunda in Chelmsford Place, pull it down and take it to the rubbish tip and replace it with a "wishing well".
The plans for the rotunda were submitted to council, which were passed.
So this rotunda was built by a qualified builder and the members of the Rotary club in their own time. It was paid for by the Rotary club.
Wives and partners supplied morning and afternoon teas and lunches to the men.
It was a great experience and fellowship among members and a great thrill when it was completed for the Leeton community and visitors to our lovely town.
MORE NEWS
The rotunda has been used for many events - the Leeton SunRice Festival, bands, choirs and a cooking demonstration by a rice crew one day.
Everyday it is used by residents and visitors to stop and meet and have a cuppa under the shelter.
There is plenty of room either side of the rotunda to build a "wishing well".
The Leeton people would like to see money spent wisely in painting the reservoir to depict our area of citrus, rice and grapes like other towns around us have already done and they look magnificent.
We already have a fountain in Chelmford Place, so why spend money on another water feature? What else is our council going to destroy in our town?
