After a bit of a sloppy opening 20 minutes, it was an inspired substitution from coach Frank Alampi which clicked his side into gear.
"Our passing was horrendous at the start especially out of the back, but we were able to rectify it," he said.
"We had a few chances, but we just didn't put it in the back of the net. Their keeper made some good saves early on and throughout the whole game really.
"There were a couple of missed opportunities and a couple cleared off the line but then Henri (Gardner) was able to score a really good goal, and that settled the boys down, and from there they played a lot better.
"It gave us a really good spark when he came on. He got his first goal for the club and then went on to score a hat full which we knew would happen after he got his first one."
Henri knocked in four goals in the first half while brother Fred also found the back of the net with Adam Raso rounding out the game with a hat-trick to see United take the three points with the 11-goal victory.
The result know means that United has secured the second chance in finals if needed, which has Alampi pleased.
"It keeps us with that little gap. Hanwood drew with Tumut, so that is good for us as well," he said.
"The double chance has been secured, which is what you want, but we just move on to next week now and try to consolidate that top spot."
The clash with the bottom-placed South Wagga side gave Leeton the chance to try some new things, and Alampi was pleased with how those changes worked out.
"We tried a couple of things formation wise, and it went well," he said.
"Put some boys in some different spots, and they performed well in a different area. It is good to know that I have some boys who we are able to move around. Games like today you don't get to see how they stand up in high-pressure moments, but we have some really versatile boys, so I just gave them a bit of a run in some different areas."
United attention will know turn to taking on Lake Albert in the final round as they look to lock away the minor premiership as they are just two points ahead of the Henwood Park.
"Next week and the week after that are the important ones," he said.
"The boys knocked the ball around pretty well and kept their intensity pretty high which is hard to do sometimes in games like today."
There is a slight concern for United with Henri Gardner picking up a knock.
