The Whitton Transfer Station will be officially opened by Leeton Shire Council on October 13, recognising not just the new facility, but the work that has gone into the construction and creation of it.
Located in Naradhun Street, the transfer station's construction has been finished in recent weeks.
Council said the facility provided a "safer, environmentally friendly site" for the disposal of additional domestic waste and recycled items.
In designing the Whitton Transfer Station, council took into consideration a number of key aspects such as ease of site access and use, the safety of workers and residents, and protection of the surrounding environment.
MORE NEWS:
Users will be able to access the site via a one-way travel lane from Naradhun Street to Loughnan Street.
Council staff will supervise the site to monitor the quantity and types of wastes being generated and to prevent any cases of illegal dumping.
The transfer station's operating hours will be on Wednesday from 12:30pm to 4:30pm and Saturday from 8:30am to 12:30pm.
The site will be locked after hours.
The Whitton Transfer Station Project is supported by the Environmental Trust as part of the NSW Environmental Protection Authorities - Waste Less, Recycle More Incentive Program.
"Improvements to Whitton's waste collection point are set to benefit the township and surrounds, as well as the environment through recycling and environmental protection measures in the site's design," council's general manager Jackie Kruger said.
The official opening will take place on October 13 from 10.30am on site, followed by light refreshments at the Whitton hall.
Due to COVID restrictions numbers will be limited.
