Twenty-four residents who live on Leeton's Fivebough Road have requested Leeton Shire Council extend its water main from 230 Fivebough Road to the intersection of Fivebough and Brobenah Roads to service their properties.
At present, many of these residents, who live just kilometres from the town's central point, have their water trucked in to their properties, which can be a costly exercise.
The matter was discussed at council's most recent ordinary meeting, with Fivebough Road resident Kerry Maguire addressing those present on the night.
"I just feel to not have town water so close to town is archaic, I feel like we live in a third world country without it," she said.
MORE NEWS:
Council's original motion at the meeting was to decline approving the extension of the current water main as the "capital and operational costs render the project unaffordable and would not be a prudent use of council's funds".
However, a decision has now been deferred.
The issue lies with the zoning of the properties in this area.
All properties adjoining Fivebough Road are zoned rural.
Council's director operations, Peter Keane, didn't shy away from saying the project would be expensive.
Mrs Maguire was also unsure residents would be able to foot the bill themselves.
Council will now be endeavoring to investigate the matter further and will consult with the property owners to try and find a suitable solution for all.
More details are being sought and further research conducted, with councillor Tony Ciccia also asking whether or not council could borrow the money to fund the project.
More information will now be presented to council's November monthly meeting so a decision can be made.
