POLICE remain hopeful they will track down the man allegedly responsible for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Leeton last year.

When contacted by The Irrigator this week, NSW Police said the need for community members with any information about the man remained a priority.
"Police are continuing to seek information from the public as inquiries into the incident continue," a spokesman from NSW Police said.
Police have been told the 12-year-old girl was walking along Pine Avenue in Leeton during the afternoon when she was approached by a stranger.

It is believed to have been sometime 4pm and 4.30pm on a weekday between August and September last year that she was taken from her journey to a nearby location and sexually assaulted.
The man depicted in a COMFIT image released by police is described as being aged in his 20s or 30s, of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, with a tanned complexion, brown hair, unkempt facial hair and a wrinkled forehead.
