Wonder no more because new on-call firefighters are being sought to join up here in Leeton.
Specifically, the Leeton brigade is after people who can commit to call outs during the day.
"That's what we are really lacking at the moment with people working out of town and not able to get away from their work," Captain Graham Parks said.
MORE NEWS:
"We really need people who can come to the call outs during the day, people whose employers would be okay with that.
"The good thing is only 35 to 40 per cent of our calls are through the day time, the rest are at night or of a weekend.
"The calls during the day are also usually shorter, sometimes only taking up 30 minutes of your time."
You do get paid to respond to any sort of call out, but even if you aren't required and sent out to the job, that money is still yours.
The Leeton brigade is also after more females to sign up.
While there are several processes involved in becoming a firefighter such as an interview, medical examination, physical tests and, of course, paperwork and training, the work is rewarding.
"The team environment we have here is really good," recruitment officer Emma Tyrrell said.
"But also you're working on behalf of the community, the town and the people involved.
"There's a lot of self-satisfaction and helping people. We also do a lot of fundraising when we can to help the community too."
Comprehensive training is provided to all firefighters, covering all aspects of the job.
Those thinking of applying need to have a current NSW driver's licence, be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, live or work within a reasonable distance from the Leeton station and as stated have a good daytime availability to be able to respond to emergencies.
Leeton's firefighters are open to answering questions about what is involved, so touch base with them for a chat.
