Or what does that mean for someone that lives with the disability?
I am fortunate enough to have conversations with families and NDIS participants on a daily basis.
One topic of conversation that keeps coming up is respite.
For parents they do not like the word "respite" and that is completely understandable.
As parents we are here to support our children through thick and thin.

However, do these families have other children, would these families like to go on holidays and the thought of that scares them (with very good reason).
Imagine going to a new town for a holiday like a typical family and not knowing where the local GP is, the local hospital (if we need them won't know us), how do they know if that town has adult change facilities where they can change their loved one?
These are just some of the questions that run though a parent or carer's mind before they can even consider accommodation, special outings etc.
Even those two examples require a lot of thought if you have someone travelling with you that just happens to have a disability.
The good news is the NDIS have considered all of these and some NDIS participants are eligible for short term accommodation (respite) and this can look like many things.
In Leeton my own business "My Plan Connect" has a beautiful home away from home in Valencia Street for those families looking for somewhere local.
Some NDIS plans may cater for a support worker to attend the family holidays with them or, if the participant is an adult, perhaps they would like to go away with a support mentor.
There are many options within the NDIS and I'm more than happy to assist families.
Come by for a chat. In Leeton we are fortunate to have many smaller providers that are catering for everyone's needs especially around flexibility of families lives.
