The Lions Club of Leeton will again be welcoming passengers aboard its iconic train to tour the town's Christmas lights in 2020.

Numbers are limited, but the same amount of fun and excitement can be expected.

The tours are kicking off at nightfall on December 8 and will continue on December 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd and 23rd.

There may also be the possibility of other dates being added if the interest from the community is there.

The Lions train is the perfect way to view the town's festive displays, according to Leeton Lions Club member and train driver Joe Broso.

"There's a limit of 32 on each tour, it is normally around 40 that we can take on each trip, but due to COVID we have had to restrict the numbers," Mr Broso said.

"I think it's the best way for people to see the lights because someone else is doing the driving.

"You can sit back and take it all in with your family and friends without the hassle of having to drive at the same time."

There is no Light Up Leeton carnival and concert in 2020, but residents have still been encouraged to decorate their homes and businesses as that part of the event has not been cancelled.

The idea is to have as many homes and properties as possible lit up to show festive spirit and cancel out any of the negativity that has come about in 2020.

Residents need not go to too much trouble, even a simple string of lights across the gutter is better than nothing.

However, many homes in the shire are known for "going big" each year and its hoped others may join in the fun.

Mr Broso said he loved taking residents around the displays on the train each year because it didn't matter what age was aboard, the lights always bring a smile to everyone.

"You do get a bit of a kick out of hearing and seeing everyone's reactions ... it's something fun you can do with your family and friends," he said.

Spaces are limited, so bookings are essential and can be done at Broso's Farmland Supplies in Acacia Avenue. Tours start at the Market Plaza's carpark.
