LEETON Shire Council has been given a "pat on the back" by its auditor who said this year's challenging times had been well handled by the organisation.

Council's external auditor Crowe noted its financial and audit report had been lodged on time and all audit opinions were "expressed unmodified".
Brad Bohun from Crowe delivered a presentation to council via video meeting at its ordinary November meeting last week.
The reports outlined council's current financial position, including the net operating result, before capital grants and contributions, which was was a surplus of $2.5 million compared to a surplus of $2.65 million for the year ended June 2019.

Total cash and investments at June 30 2020 were $50.21 million, while total income from continuing operations, including grant income, was $35.69 million.
Council's expenditure was $29.25 million.
Helping the numbers was the $8.92 million worth of grants that council has received.
Federal Assistance Grants made up of $4.51 million of this amount, the state government provided $4.29 million, the federal government contributed $76,000 and $39,000 was received from other sources.
Also noted and discussed on the night was the projects that have been finished or commenced in recent times.
Key projects included:
- Completion of Leeton No.1 Oval kiosk.
- Completion of the Leeton Museum and Gallery and its permanent Water by Design exhibition.
- Installation of the new irrigation system at the Leeton Golf Course.
- Opening of the Country Universities Centre.
- Starting the Leeton pool redevelopment project.
- Commencement of upgrade works on the Whitton-Darlington Point Road bridge over the Sturt Canal.
- The construction of the Helson Park Playground.
- Commencement of the CBD enhancement project stage one Wade Avenue.
- Whitton Transfer Station completed and opened recently.
- Roads: grading 165 km, resheeting 4.2 km of gravel road, resealing 17.2 km of tar-sealed road.
- Planting of 87 street trees.
