Leeton Shire Council will receive $4000 from the state government to upgrade the infrastructure around the area of two shelters on Main Avenue in Yanco.

The funding was announced by Duty MLC for Murray Wes Fang, with the grant allocated under the Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme, which provides subsidies to support the construction or upgrade of bus stop infrastructure generally owned and maintained by local councils across rural and regional NSW.

Mr Fang said the money will help upgrade two bus shelters to meet accessibility standards.

"This grant will upgrade the bus infrastructure at Yanco's Public School and Main Avenue," said Mr Fang.

"These shelters will help to make public transport and connections between bus stops more accessible to the community.

"They will include accessible features like connecting paths, signage, tactile indicators, and furniture such as seating."

Mayor Paul Maytom has welcomed the announcement and was pleased council's application for the money had been approved.

"It's very important, especially wherever it includes these facilities being used by children and students," he said.

"Accessibility is also very important, so getting those footpaths and that accessibility right is crucial.

"It shows we're not leaving Yanco behind."

Under the scheme, more than 500 projects will be completed throughout the state.
