The last game of senior rugby league that was played in Griffith was the 2019 Group 20 final, and now almost 18 months later the pre-season clash will act as a relaunch for the sport in the area after the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the 2020 Group 20 season.

Ben Jeffery will lead the side out on Saturday night, and he just wants his side to go out and enjoy the occasion.

"It's short notice and off one training run, but everyone knows what to do, and I'm sure everyone will do there best on the day," he said.

"We can go out there and throw it around a bit and try and enjoy it as much as we can. As hard as it is going to be hopefully, we can give Souths a little bit of competition and not make it too easy for them.

"We aren't setting any miracle goals or anything like that. We just want to get out there and make it a bit competitive.

"We have nothing to lose."

With the long break between games for the region, Jeffery knows the importance of the clash not just for the seniors but also attracting juniors back to the game.

"It's a really important thing to have down here after having the year off," he said.

"Not just for senior footy but also the juniors and getting the kids keen. Hopefully, a lot of them come down to watch and get back into football this year."

The main game will kick off at 7pm.
