Did you know we have a staggering 170 not-for-profit organisations in the Leeton Local Government Area?
These groups are made up of volunteers who give their time freely to run our social and service clubs, charities, sporting and recreational organisations, support and interest groups and service agencies.
If each organisation averaged 15 volunteer members that would equate to 2625 volunteers within our community groups. It is no wonder we are the envy other towns around the region.
But this is not all. Recently, Leeton Connect started showcasing volunteers on the Leeton Connect Facebook page.
We found people donating their time to help at the Leeton Museum and Gallery, Leeton Visitors Centre, Leeton Multicultural Group, Leeton Community Op Shop and all the other support agencies.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Others were eagerly putting up their hand to volunteer their support to the production of Henry V. Whenever the call goes out to support someone in need the volunteers come out in force. The list goes on.
Local events such as the Leeton SunRice Festival, Leeton Up Leeton and the Art Deco Festival attract an abundance of volunteers who all come together to stage amazing events for our community.
Our surrounding villages are fantastic at looking after their own. They rally and volunteer in partnership to create social value and strengthen their small communities.
Did you know that volunteering is good for your health? Recent studies show volunteerism impacts positively on your health, improves your confidence and strengthens connections to the community.
Learning new skills and gaining work experience are other benefits of volunteering.
Three cheers for our volunteers they are just ordinary people with extraordinary hearts.
