Nine young children have successfully completed the very first Little Bang Discovery Club program in Leeton over the past month and are now equipped with new skills and knowledge.
Little Bang Discovery Club is a four-session hands-on program specially developed for preschoolers aged three to five years.
It recognizes that young children are natural scientists, inquisitive and curious, and keen to learn and discover the world around them.
Each program session encourages children to make their own discoveries through observation, investigation and experimentation.
Leeton library's Zoey Lucas said the initiative had proven beneficial.
"We've had some amazing participation and it's been really interesting to see the different ways their young brains work," she said.
"In the training for this we were told every child would be different and have a different perspective, so it's been so fascinating seeing every single one of them learn and interpret what they are learning.
"These children are between two and five. The ideal age was between three and five, but we did get a couple in that were pretty advanced, so we made an exception."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Each week the group would head to the library for the sessions, with a focus on the question "but why?".
There were concepts of science introduced such as weight, hypothesis, measurement and more, hands-on experiment, books that tied into what they were learning and even activities to take home.
Last Monday was the final session for the first club, but the library is already planning on bringing the program back again.
"It's been a huge success," Ms Lucas said.
"Anyone who is interested in participating next time should register their interest with the library now."
The young scientists were also handed their very own graduation certificates from the program last Monday from councillor Tony Reneker.
