In recent times the showground has undergone a transformation with several projects, such as the construction of a new grandstand, aiming to bring the facility into the 21st Century.
Now, the netball courts at the ground can boast all-weather playing conditions thanks to the Leeton Show Society and its hard work in sourcing grant funding from the federal government, the Showground Trust, in-kind donations and money from the community.
The end result is a steel structure that now covers the entirety of one of the courts at the venue, which will allow games to be played out of the rain and spectators to also be sheltered from the weather.
The show society plans to use the court as a pavilion come the Leeton Show.
Society secretary Janne Skewes was thrilled with how the project had came up.
"It looks fantastic," she said.
"We're extremely happy with it.
"The idea will be we will enclose it, but we're waiting until we can source more funding.
"Work started in the middle of January. We're just waiting on the lights and it will be all complete."
Plenty of foresight and thinking went into the project over many years.
"When the old showground hall was pulled down due to the asbestos, it was noted then in the minutes of the Showground Trust that should the Show Society ever come into any money, this would be the site for it," Mrs Skewes said.
"The netball court was put down, but on the provisio that if we came into any money that we would build a stadium-pavilion type structure.
"This COLA style makes it suitable for both parties."
IN OTHER NEWS:
This project is also not the only work that has been happening at the showground in recent times.
Further funding from the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal's Investing in Rural Community Futures (IRCF) program has allowed for renovation work of the secretary's office to take place.
This has included a complete makeover, with new computers, laptops and furnishings to be added which will make life much easier for the Show Society both generally, as well as when the annual event is held.
Further funding from the Showground Stimulus Funding program will allow for air-conditioning to be installed and painting to take place.
This year's show is slated to go ahead on October 8 and 9.
"We're very excited about that," Mrs Skewes said.
"However, we are on the lookout for new volunteers. We will be putting on a COVID-safe event, which means we need more people to assist with that.
"At the moment everyone on the committee are stewards. So they are busy on the day. We'll just need people on the ground to help."
The society will be holding its annual general meeting on March 17 at 7pm in the Leeton Business Enterprise Centre office in Pine Avenue across the Eurells. All welcome with all executive positions likely to be filled by those currently in the roles.
"We're just after more people to help out on the day," Mrs Skewes said.
