Kobe O'Callaghan travelled to Sydney earlier this year for the three-day Basketball NSW Shootout Competition.
Kobe was selected last September at the High Performance Program trials for the Basketball NSW under 15s boys Country NSW Team.
Fellow Leeton basketball players Tamika Rourke and Tallis McMillan were also selected to attend the special competition, but were unable to attend due to COVID-19 reasons.
The Basketball NSW Shootout is targeted at boys and girls in the under 15 and under 17s age groups featuring players who have been identified as potential participants for the following year's Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup, East Coast Challenge and Southern Cross Challenge.
These are under 16s and under 18s state team programs.
With the cancellation of these events for 2021, the introduction of three new state-based events will be on the High Performance Program agenda.
This country development tournament, normally held in Newcastle every January, but had to have a format and venue change due to COVID, involves training sessions and tournament play with the implementation of NSW "style of play" concepts and the importance of developing team culture.
IN OTHER NEWS:
There's also the added element of adherence to the NSW values that are emphasised at the event.
The shootout tournament this year involved 30 boys and girls from country and metropolitan areas where they played three x three basketball, which is becoming more prevalent in the sport.
This format allows the player to have more freedom and be more creative in their game.
This was followed by intense five versus five basketball, as well as competition games against fellow country and metro teams.
Kobe said he thoroughly enjoyed the variety in the tournament, while learning new drills, skills, meeting and making new friends and mixing it with his metro counterparts.
