A win for the Ferrets would have seen them secure the minor premiership, and after winning the toss and electing to bat, they would have been hoping to make a strong start.
Those plans soon fell to one side with Adrian Axtill (7) was trapped in front by Michael Keech, while two overs later, Mathew Axtill (3) fell in the same way to Keech (2/5) to see the Ferrets sitting on 2/16 after seven overs.
Ash Fraser and Blake McDonald tried to get their side moving in a positive direction and were able to put on 23 runs before Fraser was caught by Glenn Vitnell off the bowling of Billy Conroy (1/8).
Justin Kelly (1) fell four overs later to Reece Keech to see the Ferrets in trouble at 4/46 after 20 overs.
At the halfway mark of the innings, wickets continued to tumble as Maclean Crompton (0) was trapped in front by Reece Maguire, and then Maguire followed it up with the wicket of McDonald (16).
RELATED
Dylan McKellar (0) became Reece Keech's (2/11) second victim, while Maguire (3/8) picked up his third to see the Ferrets, who were playing a couple of players short, bowled out for 49.
If the Ferrets were going to have any chance of securing an unlikely victory, they needed to pick up some early wickets, and Kai Schmetzer (1/10) was able to make a breakthrough with the wicket of Mark Burns (4).
Matt DelGuzzo and Maguire were able to get their side on track to pick up a commanding victory with a 19-run partnership which got their side to within 17 runs of victory before DelGuzzo (5) was run out by Mathew Axtill.
Maguire (14) followed soon after when he was caught off the bowling of Axtill (1/9).
With their side within six runs of victory, Ben Killen (7) fell to McDonald (1/3), it made little difference as Matt Rhodes (11*) and Vitnell (1*) were able to guide their side to a six-wicket win with 23 overs remaining.
The Colts will look to maintain their position when they take on Yanco while L&D head to Narrandera.
