My Plan Connect participants, staff and their family members have strapped on their walking shoes and are gearing up to participate in the Walk for Autism.

This initiative will be held from March 21 to March 28 where the participants challenge themselves to walk 10,000 steps a day for eight days, all while raising much-needed funds to support children and adults on the autism spectrum.

The Leeton participants have plenty of friendly rivalry happening between them as they all try to become the highest fundraiser and even the person who completes the most steps over the eight days.

Kicking off the official Walk for Autism in Leeton will be a barbecue on Sunday in Mountford Park at noon.

The group will then head down to their new office space in Kurrajong Avenue where they will then aim to get in as many steps as possible for the day as group.

"Anyone can take part so we'd love for anyone who is interested to come along and join us," My Plan Connect director Jodie Ryan said.

"The reason we decided to take part was because many of our participants have autism, however so many of the staff also have family members who have been diagnosed, so we have a lot of people who are very passionate about raising awareness.

"We hope to raise plenty of awareness right here in Leeton about autism.

"Particularly when it comes to employment.

"We want businesses to know autism doesn't need to be a barrier. Everyone deserves to have employment and be working."

Beyond Bank in Leeton is also supporting the event.

The Leeton group is hoping to raise around $1200, but Ms Ryan said they would be happy with whatever amount they end up with.

"We're got such a great group, so everyone is trying to out-do each other with the steps and the fundraising ... a bit of friendly rivalry," she said.

"The main thing is everyone is having fun with it. That's the main thing."

All money raised goes straight to Autism Spectrum Australia.
