It's all systems go for the work with the young attendees having a front row seat to watch the construction and see their centre expand to better provide early learning opportunities in the years ahead.
At the end of 2019, Leeton Preschool received $350,000 from the state government for the extension project.
Another classroom is being added at the facility, which will allow for extra children per week to attend preschool in Leeton.
The project was put on hold last year due to the pandemic, but it is now in full swing.
IN OTHER NEWS:
At the moment the preschool is equipped to have up to 60 children each day, but this number will increase to 80 once the work is finished.
This equates to 150 families per week using the service, which is being provided free-of-charge in 2021 thanks to additional funding opportunities.
This number will move to 200 families when the extension is finished.
Leeton Preschool director Laura Lashbrook said work started in January and was on track to be completed this year.
"We've also recently opened our playground extension, which includes a water pump, creek bed, bike track, a little fire pit area ... it encourages plenty of outdoor play opportunities," she said.
"We've had different grants come through for this project, as well as our new fort.
"There's been a lot of really exciting changes happening."
Another area will also be upgraded to include a new sandpit complete with a shade sail.
Prior to the playground extension taking place, the area was Crown Land within the park next door to the preschool.
"We applied to Leeton Shire Council as the land wasn't used that much ... they were really supportive of us in extending our lease with Crown Land to allow us to do so," Mrs Lashbrook said.
The classroom extension will also see the preschool's office area included in the work.
"Everyone is really exciting that it's all happening," Mrs Lashbrook said.
"Not only will it look really good, but it's been a long time since anything like this has happened at the preschool.
"Preschools are educating the young minds and generations of the future, so to have these improved facilities is going to be a big help to what we do here, as well as allowing more children to access preschool."
