Throughout the month of March Endometriosis Australia has been raising crucial awareness of the condition, which affects hundreds of thousands of women in this country.
As part of this campaign, several events will be taking place in Leeton on Saturday.
The Leeton Museum and Gallery will be lit up in yellow on Saturday and Sunday evening to recognise the one in nine women who are affected by the disease.
The building is one of several across the country to do so.
Also taking place on Saturday will be a fundraiser hosted by Indulgence for Hair, which will include a sausage sizzle, cake stall and more happening outside the salon from 10am to 1pm.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I have several friends of have endometriosis, as well as clients, so I think it's important we are raising awareness and money because it does affect so many people," salon owner Sandra Nardi said.
Residents can also donate money on the day, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to Endometriosis Australia.
The organisation is a nationally accredited charity that endeavors to increase recognition of endometriosis, provide endometriosis education programs, and provide funding for endometriosis research.
Endometriosis is a common disease in which the tissue that is similar to the lining of the womb grows outside it in other parts of the body.
About 11.4 per cent of women suffer with endometriosis at some point in their life with the disease often starting in teenagers.
Symptoms are variable and this may contribute to the 6.5-year delay in diagnosis.
Common symptoms include pelvic pain that puts life on hold around or during a woman's period.
It can also damage fertility. While endometriosis most often affects the reproductive organs, it is frequently found in the bowel and bladder and has been found in muscle, joints, the lungs and the brain.
