The Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) is currently in the process of developing an After Hours Primary Care Plan.
This regional plan will guide activities to improve after hours primary care health services and access over the next three to five years.
Consultants were in Leeton this week to conduct face-to-face meetings with key stakeholders, including general practices, pharmacies, aged care providers, the ambulance and hospital service, MPs and community members.
IN OTHER NEWS:
MPHN's senior manager population health planning and data, Doctor Alison Koschel, said the idea was to find out from communities where, why and how they use after hours services.
"We have a remit to assist the community, to make sure they have access to services and that's within in hours and after hours," Dr Koschel said.
"So this regional plan is for us to determine what the current state of play is and to look then to the existing solutions and what we can do to support those to continue, as well as to identify if there's any opportunities to do anything else which would make access to after hours services in primary care more viable or more easily accessed by the community."
This work is focusing on the primary care sector and not acute care, which is hospitals and emergency departments.
"These services do already operate, but MPHN wants the community to let them know what is and what isn't working so they can plan to better accommodate residents in the future.
"It's really important we receive that feedback because it will shape what we are doing moving forward," Dr Koschel said.
