The Leeton Sport and Recreation Precinct parkrun will be start on Saturday morning.
Parkruns are held across the world, but don't be put off by its name as they are not all about exercise. They are a way to meet new people. Participants can walk, run, jog or volunteer at parkruns.
The event is 5 km in distance every Saturday morning of the year at 8am. All parkruns are different, there are some on beaches, some on farms, some are hilly, some are flat, they all have different characteristics.
It's non-competitive with no awards or prizes, and volunteers are definitely important and appreciated. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. Anyone from walkers or those taking their first steps in running to Olympians are involved in parkrun.
Parkrun Australia is the governing body, with 406 locations where parkruns are conducted, including in Griffith and Wagga.
Leeton has its own dedicated website and Facebook page for those searching for more information.
For those wanting to take part, it is important to register beforehand at parkrun.com.au/register. Having a paper barcode which is unique to you allows your event to be timed, but you have to register to get your barcode.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Participants can use their code at any event across the world. Barcodes can't be scanned on phones.
Children must be aged four or over to register and obtain their own barcode.
Children under 11 need to be within an arm's length of a parent, guardian or designated adult during the event.
Strollers are allowed, but the course in Leeton does have some grass. No bikes are allowed in parkruns.
Funding to start the Leeton Sport and Recreation Precinct parkrun was received from Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network and Leeton Shire Council as part of the community grants scheme.
The parkrun launch will be at 7.30am at Leeton skate park where the event will start and finish.
