On April 1 the pair marked their 60th wedding anniversary together, celebrating the occasion a week later with some of their nearest and dearest family members.
It was no April Fool's joke for the pair that's for certain when they were married on that day in 1961.
Having both grown up in Leeton, the couple said they have enjoyed making many fond memories in the town as their marriage went on.
The couple were first introduced to each other when John's cousin introduced them at Dorothy's house when she was 15-years-old.
John was 17 and had just gotten his licence.
The couple joked their first "date" had them home late, with Dorothy's parents not at all happy with them at the time.

However, two years later they were happily engaged.
Twelve months after their engagement their wedding day was held.
"It was a beautiful day," Mrs Preston said.
"It was a bit different to now where your mum and mother-in-law organised the day."
The Prestons were married at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Leeton and their reception was the very first function to be held at Madonna Place.
Family members made up the bridal party and the pair then headed off on their honeymoon.
As the years went on they had their own children - four sons - with the family growing to include 12 grandchildren and two great grandsons.
It was a beautiful day.

Sixty years is a significant milestone, with Mr Preston saying tolerance of each other was important as the years go on.
"You have to give and take a bit and you have to respect each other's opinion," he said.
Mr Preston spent his working life in the trucking industry, while Mrs Preston has had many jobs over the years, but they both mark their greatest achievement as their family.
"We're really proud of our family," Mrs Preston said.
