The club is in the process of once again having its own club house on the golf course grounds after the original building was demolished around a decade ago.
Now, Leeton Shire Council has said it will submit a planning proposal to amend its Local Environmental Plan by rezoning the site of where the new clubhouse is set to be constructed from "Public Recreation" to "RE2 Private Recreation".
The original clubhouse building had consisted of a bar, restaurant and function rooms.
Council was granted ownership of this site by the previous owner, the Leeton Soldiers Club, following an agreement to manage and fund the operation of the golf course.
The site is currently zoned "Public Recreation RE1", which permits the redevelopment as an entertainment facility, food and drink premises, function centre and recreation facility (indoor).
IN OTHER NEWS:
However, council has now decided to rezone the site to "RE2 Private Recreation" to allow for additional land uses such as visitor and tourist accommodation and a registered club to maximise the potential of this site and ensure long-term sustainability.
It's good news for the project, with the golf club still working towards the goal of constructing a clubhouse that the entire community will be able to use for a variety of purposes and functions, as well as giving golfers a place to meet after having a swing on course.
Council's manager of planning, building and health Francois Van Der Berg said a planning proposal for the project was submitted to NSW Planning, Industry and Environment.
Council then received a "gateway determination" in January this year.
A gateway determination decides whether or not the planning proposal should proceed.
"The gateway to proceed was subject to conditions, all of which have been satisfied by council," Mr Van Der Berg said.
"Council publicly exhibited the planning proposal from February 12 to March 12 and no objections were received."
With all of these matters being ticked off the to-do list, the formal process to allow the build to proceed once all funding has been secured to do so means the project is coming closer to fruition.
