The course will be delivered by virtual classroom and will be held on Wednesday May 26 and Wednesday June 9
Participants will receive a Statement of Attainment in Accidental Counselling and will learn basic counselling skills to provide de facto counselling to friends, family, colleagues and clients.
TAFE NSW counselling teacher Rochelle Armstrong said that in the midst of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, accidental counsellors played a more critical role than ever before in boosting the mental wellbeing of their community.
"In this current climate, with all the uncertainties and stresses, more and more people are being asked to have difficult conversations with others in distress or crisis," Mrs Armstrong said.

Mrs Armstrong said that the course will provide participants a framework on how to facilitate difficult conversations in a supportive way and will teach practical, hands on skills for both personal and professional situations.
"It arms students with the basic skills to tune in and listen to someone in distress," Mrs Armstrong said.
Topics covered by the course include limit setting, boundaries, dealing with crisis, debriefing and self care.
Members of the community who are thinking of pursuing a career in the mental health sector are also encourage to enroll as a way to 'dip their toes in the water'.
