So many events on offer filled with fine food, wine and entertainment drawing us into the roaring twenties, initially a time of great optimism, progress and opportunity.
It was a time of social reform and change and the rise of the "modern woman".
It was also a "golden era" for criminals making money from illicit alcohol, drug and gambling trades.
Australian newspaper articles on city crime gangs battling with cutthroat razors for power report that, "At present the police are powerless to disperse gangs of known criminals ... who consort together to plot fresh crimes" - The Sun Sydney, 20 Sept 1929.

Police forces had their numbers reduced by the Great War, additionally laws were not keeping up with the pace of criminal evolution.
In 1922, The British Empire World Tour to strengthen the bonds within the Empire and stimulate trade, saw delegates including murder mystery novelist, Agatha Christie come to Australia.
The delegates, travelling from Balranald and on their way to Sydney, stayed for a night at the Historic Hydro Hotel.
What a hoot to discover, the Queen of the murder mystery, a very favourite of mine, stayed right here.
It was obvious that an event paying tribute to her visit should be a feature of the Australian Art Deco Festival.
Enter, Bloodshed at the Banquet, a melodrama full of shenanigans, murder and mischief, performed by local thespians who enjoy a fine, rollicking yarn.
This original play is written by a member of the Leeton Writers Collective, yours truly, and it takes components of truth and fiction to bring to life a tale of intrigue.
An amazing local cast and crew brings this to life in an immersive performance.
It is an event not to be missed.
