While the pandemic and its ongoing restrictions continues to cause headaches for organisers of such events, the Leeton Eisteddfod Society is pressing on.
The committee has also had to think outside the box in 2021 to allow the event to move forward without its traditional home at the Roxy Theatre, which is scheduled for redevelopment work when the event is being held.
Already highland dancing has been held with a huge surge in numbers on June 20.
The society now turns its attention to the remaining disciplines, which will be held as follows:
- Speech and drama from August 4 at the Uniting Church Hall.
- Ballet and revue from August 10 to August 14 at MIA Club.
- Music from August 16 at the Uniting Church Hall.
With the changes in venues and COVID all in the mix, the committee are working hard to accommodate everyone, but are relieved the event has been able to return.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It was extremely hard last year having to pull the pin and make the decision so early on, but it was the right call in the end," Leeton Eisteddfod Society president Judith Nolan said.
"I guess it would have been easy to just do the same again this year, but I think two years is too long and you'd risk the event never returning.
"We are very excited to have the eisteddfod back on again and I think people are very appreciative of that."
Crowds are welcome, but will need to adhere to restrictions that are in place.
Any volunteers who would like to assist with a role throughout the event are also welcome to get in contact with the committee.
A program for the event will soon be finalised and released to the public.
"We're looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful talent again," Mrs Nolan said.
"Entries do appear to be down in some categories, but hopefully we can keep building them up again (in the years ahead."
