This weekend saw the Greens able to pick up two points with a 28-4 win over the third-placed Yenda Blueheelers.

The Yenda side took an early lead with the opening try in the sixth minute, but it was short-lived, with Jessica McDonell getting over for the Leeton side three minutes later.

The Greens were able to get themselves into a rhythm with Anna McClure getting over and took a 16-4 lead into the halftime with a try to Emily Wright just before the break.

After a scrappy start to the second half by both sides, Leeton was finally able to convert the field position into points, with McClure getting her second of the afternoon.

The speedster was able to complete her hat-trick after Sophie McGregor was able to break the line, she threw a looping pass which sent McClure over in the corner.

The Greens were able to wrap up the game with Elli Gill getting over after Leeton was able to force a repeat set, and Gill picked a hole to get over and secure the 24-point win for the Greens.

Coach Daniel Watt was pleased with how his side responded after falling behind early.

"Yenda scored an early try, but they were able to hold their composure well, stick together, and they kept their heads up," he said.

"They were able to put a few sets together and went from their basically."

In a potentially worrying message for the other sides, Watt knows there is still room for his side to improve.

"They do tend to make a few mistakes, and if we could get those little things out of our game, it would be great," he said.

"That just comes down to experience, timing and not overthinking."

There were two tight clashes in the other games played over the weekend.

Darlington Point Coleambally were able to stay in the three-way fight for second place with a two-point win over Hay, and West Wyalong took two vital points with a 20-18 win over TLU Sharks.
