Late last month the Leeton Eisteddfod Society announced it had postponed this year's event in the hopes it may have been able to go ahead later in 2021.
However, over the weekend the committee made the tough decision to officially cancel the eisteddfod for this year.
It was a hard decision for the society to make as everything was all set to go.
After also having to cancel in 2020, the society had been hoping the event would be held this year to give the shire's dancers, singers, choirs, musicians and the like all a chance to take to the stage - something that has been a rarity in the last 18 months.
In a statement over the weekend, the society said it was heartbroken to have to cancel the 2021 eisteddfod.
"After many days of serious consideration, Leeton Eisteddfod Society have, with heavy hearts, taken the decision tonight to cancel Leeton Eisteddfod 2021," the statement said.
"It is the only response we can have in light of the rapidly unfolding COVID situation.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We send our love to all the wonderful performers, teachers, schools, students, parents and supporters who have worked so hard to prepare, to adjust and rehearse in hope.
"You are the heart of Leeton Eisteddfod and we thank you for your commitment, your courage and your talent."
The committee has said all is not lost and will again look to hold the event in 2022 and more volunteers are always welcome to assist in the planning.
