It was a "heartbreaking" decision by the society according to secretary Janne Skewes, but "the right call to make" amid ongoing COVID-19 rules and lockdowns.

"We're all pretty heartbroken, we had so many things planned and ready to go," Mrs Skewes said.

"But, it's the right decision to make during these times."

It is a sentiment echoed by society president Bill Aliendi, who had been looking forward to putting on a show to remember.

"After we weren't able to go ahead last year, the committee worked really hard to make sure this year was going to be one to remember, we were reducing gate prices, offering different events, trying to make it a real community, agricultural show again," he said.

"We've got a really great committee who have some fantastic ideas, but we'll just have to wait until next year and hopefully we will be right to go."

Mrs Skewes agreed, saying the silver living to the cancellation meant so much of the planning and organising for 2022 was in place already.

Amid trying to get the Leeton Show happening in 2021, the committee was also busy with several other projects at the showground.

After applying for and being successful in several grant applications through the federal government and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, the society has been able to give its secretary's office and kitchen a complete facelift.

These areas are located inside the agricultural pavilion building at the showground. The building itself is estimated to be more than 100 years old.

"We're trying really hard to make improvements where we can," Mr Aliendi said.

"This work has been a drastic improvement and it's now a workable space.

"It's the real hub of the show."

All of the work was completed by local contractors.

More projects are in the works, but will also rely on grant funding.

More volunteers are always welcomed by the society, as are new ideas for the Leeton Show.
