Dr Adusumilli was named the new director of medical services at Griffith Base Hospital last month - a move which he says is exciting both professionally and personally.

"Before coming here I was working as the director of medical services for the Southern NSW Local Health District in Goulburn but my family was living in Leeton more than four hours away," he said.

"It was a long commute and it is excellent to be working where I can be close to them. It was definitely something which attracted me to this role and it has been fantastic so far."

Dr Adusumilli has a range of experience working in various roles at hospital's across Ukraine, India, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.

He says he is confident he will be able to use those experiences to bring about positive change in Griffith.

"Obviously being able to be close to my children and my wife was very important but I also think this position is perfect and one which I will be able to use to bring change in this particular region," Dr Adusumilli said.

The Indian-born doctor highlighted the universal issue of attracting medical professionals to regional settings and the ongoing major redevelopment at the hospital as two key aspects of medical administration he has handled in the past.

Works are continuing to progress on the major $250 million redevelopment of Griffith Base Hospital and Dr Adusumilli said his experience with similar projects in Wagga and Goulburn would help him ensure everything passed over smoothly.

Dr Adusumilli said his family has grown very fond of the MIA over the past few years and he is keen to make it officially home for each of them.

"I am very familiar with the culture here and I really like it. It feels like a metropolitan area and often the food here is better than I've tasted in Sydney," he said.

"We are very happy with the region and are very much settled here."
